The Plymouth Basement Retreat

Some basements store boxes. This one was built to be the best room in the house. For this complete design-build in Plymouth, Minnesota, Forma took an underused lower level and reimagined it from the studs out into a true entertaining destination: a custom wine cellar, a private sauna, and a high-end bar and entertaining area anchored by a fully built-in arcade. Every detail, from layout to lighting to finish selection, was designed and constructed under one roof, with no gaps between the vision and the execution.

The custom wine cellar was built as a genuine showpiece, designer racking, and glass enclosure details that turn a simple collection into a focal point of the space. Just steps away, the bar and entertaining area was designed for real hosting: premium cabinetry, a full beverage setup, and a built-in arcade that gives the room a sense of playfulness without sacrificing the high-end finish level carried through the rest of the home.

Rounding out the lower level is a private sauna, bringing the same wellness-focused thinking we bring to every Forma project into a space most homeowners never think to include below grade. The result is a basement that functions less like storage and more like a second home within the home: a place built for entertaining, unwinding, and everything in between.
